Providing patient care in the Intensive Care Unit as well as monitoring telemetry for the ICU and Medical- Surgical patients. Aiding nursing staff in admissions, discharges, as well as transfers. Facilitating clinical tasks for nursing staff including vital signs, pulse-oximetry monitoring, blood sugar monitoring, assisting patients with activities of daily living  as well as purposeful rounding, and ensuring pt. satisfaction within the unit. As a Nurse Extern, skills such as I.V., NG tube, and Foley insertion as well as medication and I.V. fluid administration are able to be practiced and performed with the observation of the pt.'s primary nurse. Teamwork is  one of the most important aspects of the PCT/Nurse Extern position, and allows for the unit to run more smoothly, tasks to be completed more efficiently, pt.'s to receive quality care, and overall strengthens the unit allowing for trust and further involvement between all coworkers.
