SEN Teaching Assistant

Priory School

Working in this school for about 2 months was a real opportunity to increase my skills and abilities to deal with SEN students. Surrounded by a warm and experienced team, I completed with success the different tasks assigned to me, par example working with  a student with MLD and ASD. A task I thoroughly enjoyed although one of the challenges was building up our  communication skills using some basic MAKATON symbols, with time though I was able to establish a link of trust between the student and myself, helping him to become compliant with simple instructions and being receptive to teaching which enabled him to carry out tasks such as baking a  cake. This experience definitely enhancing my level of understanding,  efficiency and left me better equipped for the next step.

Maths learning support assistant

JFS School

Having a permanent position at JFS, one of the biggest Jewish school in Europe has been a thrilling experience for me. Many opportunities were given to me to prove my professionalism. Being part of The SEN department, I had the responsibility to look after a group of pupils from year 9. I  scheduled and organized after classroom interventions (tuition session) in order to strengthen and consolidate their knowledge and practice. Along with other members of staff we observed a significant improvement in the student's skills and marks.

In addition, I improved my communication skills, such as the importance of liaising with the Maths department as well as the SEN department and preparing meetings with the children's parents.
