Function: Training Program Manager / Instructional Designer (2010 to Present)

Managed training for Planning & Launch Services (P&LS) group (offices in Redmond, Asia, Fargo and Dublin) and other teams in Operations Services. Aligned training with business objectives, analyzed skill gaps, determined appropriate learning solutions, collaborated with SMEs, designed, developed, and executed instructor-led training and e-learning, and evaluated training deliverables.


  • Eliminated duplicate training efforts, introduced standardized, high-quality training content, and ensured the availability of training to global employees through on-demand training and new central training portal
  • Transitioned organization from “brownbags” to formal learning development and delivery including business needs analysis, instructionally-designed content, training delivery based on adult education principles, and training evaluation
  • Designed and developed e-Learning resulting in increased adoption of training, preservation of organization knowledge, and training that is available globally, on-demand
  • Based on needs analysis, designed and developed comprehensive FY13 training plan aligned with business objectives to up-skill organization in the areas of business acumen, field & sales, operational agility, and core skills
  • Created new hire training program including roadmap, peer mentoring and progress check-ins, which decreased ramp-up time from 6 months to 3 months. Successfully on-boarded 10+ new launch program managers, all providing positive feedback on the program. Many of the new PMs ramped up faster than 90 days due to the flexibility and scalability of the program.

Function: Channel Process Manager / OEM Launch Consultant (2010 to 2011)

Used deep subject matter expertise in Microsoft OEM channel to train launch program managers, consult on OEM product launches, and document OEM processes and procedures. Drove strategy and implementation of knowledge and content management solutions.


  • Increased PM confidence, knowledge and skills through training and support. As a result, their partnerships with stakeholders and launch execution also improved.
  • Created comprehensive content management solution for all product data process documentation so knowledge would be retained by the organization despite individual turnover. The knowledge base enables 3 teams in Operations Services to access and search 600+ documented processes, many critical to Microsoft product launch.

Function: Operations Launch Program Manager (2008 to 2010)

Managed MS Operations work stream for multiple, simultaneous Windows product launches of varying sizes and complexity. This role required daily cross-boundary collaboration, dealing with ambiguity, influence without authority, precision questioning, problem-solving and project management skills (task and milestone management, risk/issue tracking, status reporting, etc.)


  • Successfully on-boarded several v.1 or early-version products (and representative partners) into MS Operations launch processes and into the OEM channel (e.g. Windows Live, Bing, Microsoft Advantage Program)
  • Launched worldwide offerings of Authorized Refurbisher and Registered Refurbisher Programs (Windows, Office)

Documentation Manager


Documentation Manager, SQL Server User Experience (1/03 to 2/05)

  • People manager for small team of FTE writers and programmer writers that produced documentation for SQL Server replication, SQL Server Mobile Edition, and SQL Server Express Edition.
  • Managed documentation projects for SQL Server Mobile and SQL Server Express ensuring completion of documentation deliverables on schedule, and ensuring documentation drops to multiple products. Coordinated with Visual Studio, Windows CE and MSDN documentations teams regarding SQL documentation integration and release.
  • Led innovative project to convert more than 20,000 topics from MS Word to XML and store XML-based documentation in schema-driven content management system, making SQL the second group to move to  XML content management solution.

Program Manager, Accessible Technology Group (3/02 to 1/03)

  • Worked across Microsoft with product group vice presidents, GPMs, PUMs, and Lead PMs to plan for and implement accessibility into Microsoft products
  • Educated individuals and groups within 16 different Microsoft product groups (small and medium audiences) regarding implementing accessibility into the product cycle and creating accessible products
  • Liaison between product groups and Accessible Technology Product Team, providing support and resources to partners

Instructional Designer, Content Development and Delivery Group (3/01 to 3/02)

  • Instructionally designed and wrote courseware for Microsoft .NET, ADO.NET, and XML.
  • Acting product manager for three courses focusing on XML. Various product management tasks (sales sheets, product planning, gathering feedback from customers, and coordinating with marketing)
  • Provided instructional expertise during planning, design, and development of courseware
  • Gathered and implemented customer feedback related to course positioning and instructional design

Lead Programmer Writer, SQL Server User Experience (6/99 to 3/01)

  • Rewrote 12 chapters (114,000 words) for replication technology area of SQL Server 2000 Books Online
  • Created new processes for technical documentation reviews and error message/UI reviews
  • Worked as part of SQL replication development team with program managers, developers and testers to ensure accuracy and thoroughness of SQL Server replication documentation
