Guest Services Manager

Cheyenne Ridge Outfitters  via High Adventure Company

What began as a short term internship for HAC in Louisiana for Honey Brake, a duck lodge, turned into a full  time Guest Services position with Cheyenne Ridge Outpost and Signature Lodge  in Nebraska and South Dakota for duck,  goose, pheasant and fishing seasons. Working as the Manager for the Signature Lodge for the full season, taught me more than I can imagine. Learning how much  that the behind-the-scenes work is an integral part of the experience clients receive and expect from a high-end lodge was a real eye opener for me, and that establishing a personal connection to guests and all the little details, do make a big difference when it comes to their overall satisfaction of their experience at the lodge.  As the point-of-contact person for planning and understanding individual expectations through phone calls and emails, meeting them in person, and in the end saying goodbye, knowing they are walking away happy with a true life experience, is rewarding and fun! Responsibilities included scheduled calendars, day by day routing of activities, payroll,  licensing, collecting payments/deposits, using Lodgical, plus a wide range of concierge duties.

Bartender/Guest Services

Rafiki Safari Lodge

Rafiki is a wilderness luxury tent camp and conservation project focusing on adventurous sustainable tourism. The lodge is nestled on 842 acres of pristine jungle along the Savegre River. Activities offered are whitewater rafting, horseback riding, hiking, and world class birding.

From the manager:

"I had the pleasure of working directly with Ann during her time with us at Rafiki Safari Lodge from December 2012 through April 2013. During that time Ann was our main bartender and server at our busy Costa Rican lodge and restaurant.

She was always on time, worked long hours without complaint, and did everything asked of her. By the end of her stay with us she was a proficient bartender who could make excellent tropical beverages for our guests. Due to her bartending skills and positive disposition, her sales were higher than I have seen in our previous bartenders at Rafiki. Ann is a very friendly, easy-going person who enjoys her work, whatever it may be. She does an excellent job communicating with guests, and I consistently heard wonderful reviews of her attitude and work ethic from guests who visited our lodge during her time with us. Ann also works well with other employees, making her a great addition to the team. She worked hard on improving her Spanish language skills in order to better communicate with everyone. She also works well with her supervisors. Ann worked directly with me on a day to day basis, accepted constructive criticism and made every attempt possible to follow directions and make changes when necessary. With her positive outlook on life and great attitude with co-workers and guests, I highly recommend Ann to any position within the lodging, restaurant and tourism industries. I would rehire Ann in the future if she ever wishes to return to work with us at Rafiki Safari Lodge." ~ Janel Boshoff - rafikijj@gmail.com506-8470-1642

Guest Services

J Bar L Ranch

J Bar L is a 20,000 acre holistic working cattle ranch, offering a small number of guests a truly authentic Western experience in the remote Centennial Valley of SW Montana. My job is different every day. From ranch chores, to preparing cabins for guests and seeing to their needs, to gardening, assisting the chef and serving at meal time, moving cattle, and everything in between. Team work and adaptability are the most important important aspects of my job here.

From the Ranch Manager:

"Warning! Don’t hire Ann. You will be sorry. Her contagious smile will make your cheeks hurt and she will really spoil you. No seriously, please…please don’t hire Ann. We’ll miss her far too much!If there is such a thing, Ann is the perfect employee and an even better friend. She’s an absolute pleasure to be around. She works really hard. She’s smart, observant, confident, curious, and is a quick learner. She is also super easy going and up for any challenge. She worked tirelessly for the ranch, basically without supervision, for six really busy months. She is a great self-starter and all of our guests and other staff absolutely loved her. We obviously have nothing but good things to say about her. Simply put, Ann is an astounding individual that leaves a wake of people around her who feel very fortunate to have met her. I’m certainly one of those!"  ~Bryan Ulring -   (406) 596-0600

South Farm

South Farm is a historic eco-tourist travel destination and wedding venue. Conde Nast's Brides Magazine voted it 6th of the top 100 wedding venues in the UK.

From the owner:

"Ann Burton took a eight week placement with me in the spring of 2011. I am farm manager at South Farm and responsible for over 200 varieties of fruits and vegetables grown for a busy wedding venue in England. Support on a busy farm is necessary, but with so much going on, extra people can sometimes be more hindrance than help. I can happily testify that Ann is of the latter. Ann is a very fast learner, and confident in putting in to practice what she has learned, as well as applying herself to a given situation. Very early on I put Ann in charge of watering and climate regulation of the propagation units, a difficult job with hundreds of plants at different points in there life cycle needing the right amount of water, heat, and air circulation. She soon became proficient at responding to the weather and the plant's needs. When I was away from the farm I was at ease knowing she was there looking after it.

Ann has a great attitude and not afraid of work. She very quickly out-performed my other workers who were both senior in age and experience. When new arrivals joined the teams, she showed her ability to train and guide them as they learned new skills. She was a pleasure to work with, very easy to be around, and every one from the team enjoyed her company and thought highly of her. On many occasions they have ask me if we can get her back, if we could be so lucky." ~Bart Gunawardena

(A head far older than her years) She was fantastic I wish she could have been here longer, I really missed her when she was gone." ~Ann Trelfer

She is a hard act to follow for the other workawayers!!!!" ~Caroline Greville

Server, bartender, kitchen, and hospitality (Workaway)

Paradise in Portugal

The Quinta is top-rated eco-tourist retreat with 10 rooms offering a blend of traditional hospitality, regional and international cuisine, excellent wines, and top-notch service. I have luckily gone back to work there multiple times over the past 5 years.

From the owner:

"Never have I had the luck - or joy - to run across someone so young that was so clued-up, helpful, willing to pull their weight and who ALWAYS had a smile on her face. It was a sheer pleasure to have her around and our whole family count themselves fortunate to have met her. Having said that, if you're reading this with the intention of offering her a job, you shouldn't. Y'see, there's one huge disadvantage to her; you'll have to fight us. She worked with us here for 3 months and it was way too short ..." ~Frank McClintock

You were just as comfortable entertaining high-end clients as you were digging in the dirt and your presence here was a breath of fresh air for everyone. Well composed, nicely dressed and groomed, and always cheerful and positive. We remember you fondly and will always have a place for you whenever you make it this far North again. Thank you for everything!" ~Randi Iverson

Jun 2006 - Jul 2010

Shift leader

Spike's Dairy Bar

From the former manager:

"Ann is an incredible young lady. I run a small but busy ice cream /hot dog shop in Southport, North carolina. She is by far my best employee. Ann is a manager and a true leader. Any task given her is answered with a "can do" response and attitude. Honestly, if I had a few more like Ann i could just stay home and relax knowing everything at my shop was fine. Selfishly, I would like her to stay and continue to manage with my shop. Ann will be an asset no matter where or what she decides to do." ~Robert White

Nov 2008 - Jul 2010

Front of house, prep work, staff training, cashier

The Pepperoni Grill

From the owner:

"Ann Burton came on board at The Pepperoni Grill at its inception in March of 2008 and quickly became an integral member of the staff. Ann's hard work, great attitude and attention to detail allowed her to take on more responsibilities and tasks.  She was a crucial part of my initial success by competently training my front of the house staff on basic server service, product consistency and most importantly impressing upon the staff the attitude and commitment to excellence needed to be successful. Ann will most definitely be an asset to any hospitality/restaurant establishment." ~Ian Hunting  (910) 233-2914
