As an analytical chemist my job is to implement new instrumental analytical methods for detection of different biomarkers in blood and tissues of lab animals. I have worked on implementing UHPLC with electrochemical detection for quantification of oxidized derivative of deoxyguanosine (8-oxo-dG). 8-oxo-dG is one of the major products of DNA oxidation, and the level of 8-oxo-dG is used as measurement of oxidative stress. Furthermore, I have implemented the electrochemical detection of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA). ADMA was analysed quantified after chemical derivatization. ADMA is a naturally occurring chemical found in blood plasma and liver. ADMA interferes with L-arginine in the production of nitric oxide, which is involved in normal endothelial function and, by extension, cardiovascular health.
