Andy Cai started his formal dancing under the direction of Lionel Araya, undergoing a one year intensive scholarship programme. He joined LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts Dance programme in July 2002 and has since performed in all of its graduation productions. Other major productions include the post graduation production The Classic Song (2005) by LASALLE-SIA alumni Dan Kwoh and Xu Jie, the 5th Annual Contemporary Dance Festival (2004) and the World Dance Alliance Conference (2004), Taipei . Andy has performed the works of international artists Jaime Redfern (Australia), John Mead (USA), Tammy L Wong (Singapore), Natalie Weir (Australia), Cheng Hsien Fa (Taiwan), Gerard Mosterd (Amsterdam) and Caren Carino (USA).
He graduated with a Diploma in Dance from LASALLE-SIA in May 2005. In the graduation show Tabula Rasa, Out of Shape, choreographed by Andy, was the only student work selected to be featured along with other veteran choreographers and was later chosen to be presented at Tari 2005, Malaysia.
He received an honorable mention in the Modern and Jazz solo category at the CSTD Asia Pacific Competition (2004) for his performance of Hor Fun by Lionel Araya. He was a finalist with the Soul Fusion group in the first local television dance competition, The DanceFloor (2006). He also received a Best Dancer Award in the same competition.
He was invited to perform in Canada for '400 Quebec City, International Festival of Military Bands' (2008), and also to perform and Singapore Day in Melbourne, Australia that same year. Andy has regularly appeared in musicals The Magic Box and Victor Victoria. Highlights of Andy's career in 2009, include performing in "Variance" with guest choreograher Zhang Xiao Xiaong (Taiwan), which was directed by Swee Boon.(Nacho Duato). Andy joined Victoria Junior College in 2008 as resident dance instructor, helping them to win the gold award for choreography in SYF 2009.
In February 2010 Andy worked as Assistant choreographer to Jeffrey Tan for resorts worlds production of Voyage De La Vie.
In March 2010 he and his VJC dance troupe competed at the 'Lecco Danza" European youth dance competition in Italy, winning two awards for Singapore (Champions in the Contemporary Senior Dance Group category and Overall Champion performance).
Between 2010 and the present, apart from his teaching work, Andy has also had critical acclaim and success in commercial theatre, appearing in 'Fried Rice Paradise', 'Love in Stores', 'Christmas Dolls' and the magic spectacular 'Vision' starring Singaporean magicians Lawrence and Priscilla Khong. He was also flown to Beijing in Nov 2010 to appear for the annual Mont Blanc show.
Andy has continued to teach students at VJC and also at ACS Independent Schools, choreographing ACSi's work for their part in the yearly “Festival of Arts”. He was also recently requested to be guest choreographer for SMU (Singapore Management University) for their “Indancity” show.
In March 2012 Andy joined RE:Dance Theatre, a new company formed by Albert Tiong (ex member of Cloud Gate, Taiwan). Their first performance will be held in August 2012.
In April/May of this year Andy again choreographed and sent his VJC students to compete in the IX-th World Dance OLYMPIAD IDO 2012, International Dance Competition. This year held in Moscow, Andy's team performed brilliantly and won Champion in the Small Group Category and came 2nd for the Big Formation Category.
Choreographed the entire musical, based on the history of Beatty Secondary School.
Choreographed for the exquisite Remy Martin Louis VIII launch at Joel Robuchon Restaurant at Resort World Sentosa.
Choreographed the closing dance number for the Singapore Kindness Movement 2013.
Performed WHISPER OF THE TEMPEST 《微風》, a full length piece.

Where the Wind Blows is a half hour dance work choreographed by ZHANG Xiao-Xiong from Taiwan for T.H.E Dance Company. It was performed as part of Variance, a double bill performance at the NUS Arts Festival 2009. Music composed by singaporean sound artist Darren Ng.
