Triage

Remote blood pressure monitoring devices.  This company developed a unique way to monitor blood pressure that doesn’t require a doctor and doesn’t require a bulky, uncomfortable arm band.  Originate Labs did work on the wireless section, allowing blood pressure reports to be sent to the doctor remotely over the cell phone network.  Technologies included built-in CDMA modem PPP stacks, microC/OS, and ARM embedded.

2006 - 2007

Engineer

Omni Express Europe

Omni Express is Qualcomm’s new program for monitoring and directing truck-shipping in the field.  Originate Labs developed software that reports to the dispatcher the state (oil levels, fuel consumption, etc) and location of the truck.  The hardware we worked with was developed by Ferrari, and includes GPRS, GPS, and is built on a little-endian ARM processor.  Originate Labs developed the software that sends messages from the truck to the dispatcher.  Built on NucleusOS.

2006 - 2007

Engineer

Blifi

Blifi is an economical alternative to hotspot wireless, and uses cellular, WiFi, and other mobile technologies for ultimate convenience. For pennies an hour, customers can access the internet from their favorite cafe, hotel or hotspot! Built on proprietary hardware and software, the Blifi platform provides a flexible environment capable of interfacing with today’s cellular and WiFi technologies, as well as future wireless technologies.

2006 - 2007

Engineer

CardioNet

Embedded heart monitoring systems.  CardioNet has developed a successful and innovative product leading to an IPO.  These devices monitor a patient’s heart for irregularities, replacing systems which used to require week long hospital stays.  Originate Labs wrote the software that connects these devices to their doctors, informing them of any irregularity in the patient’s heartbeat. Technologies include both wireless CDMA and conventional landline modems, Windows CE, and ARM embedded.

2006 - 2007

Engineer

Amazon Kindle

The exciting new book reader released by Amazon, being marketed on the front page of Amazon.com.  It includes a wireless monitoring system (built by Originate Labs) that reports remotely about the wireless space in the area.  This eliminates the need to send a team out to check what problems might exist in an area, saving money.  Runs on Linux/ARM, uses CDMA/EVDO wireless.

2007 - 2007

Engineer

XForms (also known as QFlow)

QFlow is a programming language designed by Originate Labs in conjunction with Qualcomm.  It relies heavily on XML, and works because it is mainly used for displaying static objects on a page.  The purpose is to create a cross-platform system for simple workflow programs, and the end result was rather nice.
