Andrew Lowings

Interest

I have a very keen interest in portrait photography. I attended a wedding and portrait course in 2005 as I wanted to develop my skills in the field. I have covered a number of weddings on a casual basis.

I am also a keen ten-pin bowler. I joined an international league in 1982 but sadly this was discontinued in 1984. I enjoy this pleasure and regularly play with my 19 year old son.

Objective

I am looking for an opportunity to manage a small team whereby I can focus on using the skills I have gained over the years to strengthen them and move the area forwards. My strength is in the corporate actions area of asset servicing but I have learnt a great deal in the last six months on custody having been required to take the lead on a difficult audit at the beginning of this year.

Summary

After 28 years in the industry I have been given the opportunity to manage a small team at Standard Bank from February 2010.

In my long career I have experienced all aspects of asset servicing through reconciliation, processing, and completion of both cash and stock events, up to and including any required tax reclamation. I have also gained good experience at large houses of the manufactured dividend process and that risks associated should correct documentation not be in place. Latterly I have also been involved in the issuance process at Standard bank where they have issued their own paper based on exotic markets across the globe as well as acting as the calculation and paying agent for such issues. I have learnt the importance of good relationships with all stakeholders' of the bank to ensure everyone's interest is at the forefront of any role I have undertaken.

I now have the chance to stamp my mark on the section under the mentoring of a strong senior manager brought in from South Africa to oversee the entire settlements department in operations. I am now honing my management skills within the area to include involvement in recruitment, team building, 1:1 meetings, and staff appraisals.
