As owner of Premier Eyecare of San Francisco, board certified ophthalmologist Dr. Andrew Calman leads a team of highly skilled optometrists and opticians who provide the city of San Francisco, California, with world-class general eye care. Dr. Calman utilizes the latest in specialized optical procedures and cutting-edge techniques and technologies when treating his patients.In addition to his private practice, Dr. Andrew Calman participates in numerous ophthalmological and general medical organizations and causes at the local, state, and national levels. He instructs resident physicians in cataract surgery as a volunteer member of the clinical faculty at California Pacific Medical Center, and as an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, Family, and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Additionally, Dr. Andrew Calman invented the Calman-Chang Chopper, an innovative instrument used for cataract surgery. Developed in 2005, the Calman-Chang Chopper remains available through Rhein Medical, Inc., at no financial benefit to Dr. Calman.Dr. Andrew Calman devotes extensive time to numerous medical nonprofit organizations, including work as a Volunteer Physician for EyeCare America, where he provides free medical eye care for low-income patients. Dr. Calman also functions as a Volunteer Surgeon for the Ambulatory Surgery Access Coalition and as the current Chairman of Prevent Blindness Northern California.Dr. Andrew Calman holds a BS and MS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1982 as a member of The Phi Beta Kappa Society. Dr. Calman holds an MD and a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from UCSF, where he participated in the prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
