Senior Team Lead/Digital Media Teacher/Yearbook Advisor

Denver South High School ; Denver Public Schools
  • Teacher: Created and implemented innovative Career and Technical Education curriculum to establish the new Digital Media program at South. Subjects taught include CTE Graphic Design, CTE 3D Animation and Advanced CTE Portfolio. Course focused around career relevant skills and technology. Included strategies for working within a technologically blended learning environment including digital portfolios.  Worked with a diverse population of learners in grades 9-12 with high numbers of refugee and ELA students with a total minority enrollment of 75% and a FRL rate of 71%. Specific Technology used: Adobe Creative Suite, Cinema 4D, 3D printing, Large Format printing, Heat Press transfers and Matting.
  • Department Chair + Cognitive Coach: Led a department of 9 Business, Art and Music teachers and acted as a liaison between administration and teachers. Trained as a Cognitive Coach to observe and coach teachers towards best practices through collaboration. Coached 3 teachers on my caseload which included collaborative pre-planning, observation and post-lesson coaching.
  • Professional Development Facilitator: Developed a 3 session professional development series on Mindfulness in Teaching. Sessions focused on strategies for work life balance as individuals, Mindful learning for students, and how to create positive collaborative practices with colleagues. 
  • Elected Member of Personnel/Hiring Committee: Completed ethics based training in hiring practices. Developed district and state relevant questions to screen applicants for desired teacher pool. Conducted interviews with a panel of teachers and administrators. Contributed to hiring choices in multiple content areas.
  • Yearbook Advisor: Implemented a Design and Journalism based curriculum to yearbook class to achieve final published product of 196 page, full color book. Acted as liaison between publisher, photographers and students to assure accuracy while meeting multiple deadlines. Advised students on creative marketing strategies to strengthen community appeal, maximize income and control costs. Developed "Yearbook Saint" program in order to provide books to exemplary students on free and reduced lunch.
  • Avid Site Team Member: Collaborated with Nationally recognized AVID program teachers to implement best practices, community relationships and increased parent communication. Participated in National AVID conference to be trained in best practices for at-risk students.
  • Project Cam-Opener Cohort 2015-16: Collaborated in a district based digital initiative between teachers using technology to capture lesson delivery and student teamwork  in order to critique and grow as educators. Specific technology used: iPad Mini, Swivl and Polaroid Cube.
  • 3D Animation Residency; Kansas City Arts Institute: Awarded a week long animation intensive residency for art educators at KCAI. 
  • Metro State University of Denver Mentor: Mentored 2 students through 160 total observation hours and collaborative practices in my classroom.

  • Teacher: Taught semester and yearlong courses including 2D Design, Drawing 1&2, Digital Photography, Graphic Design, Jewelry, Ceramics 1,2,3 & 4, 3D Advanced Placement Design. Developed curriculum for 3D AP based on College Board requirements. Attained an average pass rate of 3.75 on AP portfolio submissions. Worked with a diverse population of learners in grades 9-12 in a socioeconomically distressed neighborhood with a FRL rate of 43% and minority enrollment of 67%
  • Professional Development Facilitator: Led a group of 12 teachers through the introduction of new backwards planning expectations in accordance and preparation with Colorado Senate Bill 191 (Merit-based Pay in lieu of Tenure) over the course of 9 months. Introduced strategies, programs, readings and activities aimed at creating successful teachers under a new evaluative system. 
  • Aurora Public Schools Visual Arts Committee: Collaborated with visual arts teachers and district administration to create an arts based pacing guide and district evaluation standards and tools in accordance with Colorado State Senate Bill 191. Created evaluative rubric and evidence criteria to be used in observation and evaluation processes across the district. 
  • APS K-12 Festival of the Arts Co-Chair: Planned and executed a yearly district wide arts festival showcasing the work of k-12 students from every school across the district. Participated in logistics planning, press-release, marketing and advertising of the event. Coordinated judging and awards ceremonies, as well as set-up and take down of displays and artworks. 
  • EMAC Catalyst Show Co-Chair: Created an excellence in visual art show highlighting the work of high school students across our athletic conference. Encouraged recognition of students outside of athletics. Coordinated space rental, marketing, advertising, press releases, communication, judging and awards.
