Senior Design Engineer

USA Design Consultants

Started my own business doing independent design consulting so I was responsible for everything.

Apr 2008 - May 2009

Senior Design Engineer

Sany America

With this being a Senior position in a startup company, I got involved in far more than normal. I was a key member of the standards team, writing, reviewing and voting on standards for the company. I was also a key member of the Phase Gate team, writing and implementing this process for the company. My role also included being the second in command of the concrete pump truck team. So, I ran some meetings, headed the modeling, detailing and design (using Wildfire4 and Windchill 9), and even got into things like laying out the assembly processes and creating the manuals. Then, I also helped with translations from Chinese to English (to help them read well) and created numerous other documents. Lastly, I interviewed and helped to bring in 3 new engineers to the team.

Sep 2007 - Jan 2008

Design Engineer

B/E Aerospace

Designed aluminum sheet metal and machined parts along with plastic molded parts.

Oct 2001 - Jan 2007

Contract Design Engineer

Did only cost reduction projects. I worked on the chassis for 3 years and then worked on the new futuristic bus body for 2 years. All together I saved the company over $2 million annually. This work included daily use of Pro/Engineer and TeamCenter (data management) to support responsibilities. My work required use of Pro/Surface, Pro/Sheetmetal and Mechanica (FEA) as well as detailing and large assembly creation to TBB standards.

Jun 1998 - Jul 2001

Contract Design Engineer

Designed and maintained rear suspension components. Did various cost reductions including castings, sheet metal parts and assemblies. Used Pro/Engineer daily to support responsibilities including use of Pro/Surface, Pro/Sheet Metal and Mechanica along with PDM (data manager) and did all associated drawings to Volvo standards.

Jul 1995 - Jun 1998

Designed and maintained the main machine frames; had design control of aesthetic ductile iron castings; designed non-metallic fuel and hydraulic tanks.Used Pro/Engineer daily to support responsibilities including use of Pro/Surface and Pro/Sheet Metal along with Metaphase data manager; performed detailing and geometric tolerancing to Caterpillar standards.

"Other" Program Proficiencies

These include word, excel, outlook and powerpoint.

Data Management

I have learned and become proficient at many Data Managers including Metaphase, Pro/PDM, Pro/Intralink, Team Center and most recently Windchill 4.0.

My background includes the ability to perform structural analysis using primarily Pro/Mechanica. I have been doing most of my own FEA since I started my career over 15 years ago.

Pro/Engineer expert

I am a proficient user of Pro/Engineer with over 20,000 hours logged. This has included significant use of he basic modeling and detailing packages as well as Pro/Sheetmetal, Pro/Surface and Pro/Mechanica.

A Mechanical Design Engineer with greatly varied experience. This includes work on frame design, chassis, rear suspensions, cab suspensions, front suspensions, hydraulics, pneumatics, numerous castings, sheetmetal parts, large assemblies and molded parts.

At least 25-30 projects have required FEA; mostly mechanical and some thermal. A large part of my career has been focused on cost reductions. As an example, I saved one company over $2 million dollars annually.

My background includes implementation of new technology, complete redesign and creating brand new first-time designs. Responsibilities have also included leading design projects, working alone on projects and following someone else’s lead on projects. I am comfortable in each of these environments.

Among other things, my primary interests outside of work include church, basketball, softball, tennis, wakeboarding, volleyball, weightlifting and poker.
