MSW Intern

REACH Learning Center

Expanding my knowledge within a private practice among adults, families, and children with various degrees of therapuetic needs.  During my internship, I have provided direct support in modeling behavior, educational support within a learning center, and direct observation among family systems.

In addition, I have facilitated an Anger Management course, provided case management within the community, and expanded my direct practice knowledge/skill within the LGBT community.

Crisis Care Coordinator

COMCARE of Sedgwick County

I coordinate services for consumers identified as high frequency utilizers of Sedgwick County's Crisis services.  To be referred, community providers within the emergency system must identify a high utilization for non-emergency needs. Members typically have an elevated number of visits to the ER, Crisis, Jail, OSH or VCAC.  I was promoted to head this new position and create a tracking system to monitor members, staff cases, provide direct service and identify effective techniques to promote clients stabilization in the least restrictive environment. I also maintain a caseload to continue Crisis Case Management services and manage calls from KHS.

Crisis Case Manager II

COMCARE of Sedgwick County

As a Crisis Case Manager my duties are extensive.  I provide goal-directed, medically necessary services to support adults who have a severe mental illness which has caused a functional impairment. Provided a range of interventions such as targeted Case Management, Psychiatric Rehabilitation services, and CPST.  These involve treatment planning, collaboration with community agencies, restoration of daily living skills, coping strategies, interpersonal skills to decrease risk factors of hospitalization, completing strengths assessments, collatoral contacts to obtain services, assisting in symptom management, crisis management, medication education, and assist in admission and discharge (including involuntary hospitalizations).

I had two roles at MHA.  My first was at a crisis group home/long-term group home providing support in various forms such as medication management, psycho-educational groups, and promoting development of daily living skills with as many as 16 men, diagnosed as SPMI.  As an Attendant Care worker, I provided one on one service to SPMI adults, improving daily living skills, and motivating others for emotional support and guidance.

Disability Supports of the Great Plains

Disability supports is a non-profit organization working with people who have physical and cognitive disabilities. I provided different levels of supports through out my employment with this company.  I began as a residential support staff, providing 1-to-1 care, then with a group of six men, ranging in ability and provided support in strengths activities, promoting independence, medication management, and socialization.  I also assisted in day activities and evening transportation.  Towards the end of my employment I assisted a female, diagnosed with autism, providing intense support to provide a safe and secure living environment to maintain her scheduled routine, needed to reduce emotional disruptions.

Drug/Alcohol Dependency Technician

Women's Recovery Center offers a continuum of alcohol and drug treatment specifically designed to meet the unique needs of women, pregnant women, and women with dependent children. During my employment, I was able to facilitate 12 step groups, coordinate care among woman and their children, provide monitoring, and completed documentation as well as hourly security checks.

Attendant Care was utilized as an outpatient services providing support to kids 4-17. I worked with children diagnosed with the following: depression, anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, anger and more. I provided educational support inside the school systems, homes, and community.

I obtained my Bachelors Degree in Sociology, after obtaining my Associates degree in Social Work while maintaining placement on the Dean's Honor Role.  I placed an emphasis in Women's Studies and Psychology for my Bachelors Degree.
