Based in the NY Metro region, AW Consulting Group is focused on serving clients dealing with issues involving technology strategy, custom application development, technology assessments and audits. We work on a variety of high impact, critical issues in areas such as Social Networking applications where we assist our Clients by providing innovative services and solutions.

Project Experience:

Macquarie Group/Vistrada LLC (October 2008 to February 2009)

For Macquarie, Alex co-sold and project managed 5 development resources (both on-shore and off-shore) on a web-based, B2B rich CRM application that builds on the intellectual capital developed in the expert matching project (see Bear Stearns experience).  This project focuses on transforming the existing application into a highly scalable, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution based on open source software and frameworks (LAMP stack).

AW Consulting Group/Facebook (December 2007 to July 2008)

Alex conceptualized, managed 3 development resources and released ‘What I Want’, a Social Shopping platform built by AW Consulting Group.  ‘What I Want is a Facebook application incorporating a powerful product search engine with a wish list feature augmented by interactive Web 2.0 elements working together to provide a unique "social shopping" experience for users.  ‘What I Want’ serves as a flexible, scalable and highly customizable social shopping/marketing platform that enables retailers to quickly establish a presence on Facebook.

Bear Stearns (August 2007 to December 2007)

Alex led the business assessment as the day-to-day client manager on an initial phase of a strategic development project, participated in selling the development phase of the project (worth $1.2 million over 5 months) and staffed a seasoned team of developers (totaling 15 on-shore and off-shore) as well as project partners.  In addition, Alex founded AW Consulting Group to serve as the development partner to Strategic Visual (the overall project owner) with primary responsibility for delivering the custom web-based, B2B rich CRM application to Primary Insight (a wholly owned subsidiary of Bear Stearns).

Diamond Consultants

At Diamondcluster, Alex worked as a management consultant on projects ranging from data strategy, enterprise data architecture re-engineering, program management of strategic projects and project management of a firm-wide middleware migration effort.

Project Experience:

Goldman Sachs and Company (March 2005 to March 2007)

Alex was responsible for establishing a PMO as well as program managing several strategic projects utilizing virtual and dedicated resources with division-wide implementation scope and impact. 

The projects ranged in scope as follows:

  • Test driven methodologies and automated testing tools 
  • Continuous build framework based on 3rd party and open source technology
  • Database cache software commoditization
  • Architectural patterns
  • Technical leadership development
  • Facilitation of high-level meetings among silo-heads 

In this capacity, Alex reported directly to a managing director (MD) of a business unit silo and worked closely with the MD in all aspects of planning, strategy and execution.

In a further evolution of his role at this client, Alex also worked on project managing complex migrations of applications from the TIBCO ETX messaging platform to the EMS platform.  In this capacity, Alex coordinated and managed migration efforts for multiple projects that impacted business units across the entire firm. 

Most recently, Alex was also involved in project planning, budgeting and process reengineering efforts for a 76 person cross-divisional technology organization at this client. 

CIGNA Health Insurance

Alex worked on the evaluation of the client data and data related assets at an enterprise level, performed enterprise data modeling, devised the organizational structure around personnel managing data assets and advised on next steps to utilizing the data assets in an efficient and effective manner. 

In addition, Alex assisted in the product development and conceptual architecture assessment of a new Consumerism related health insurance offering that impacted all products, providers and markets across this insurer.  In this role, Alex conducted client interviews to understand the current state of the client enterprise architecture, participated in architectural design sessions with Diamond and client architects to formulate design recommendations, drafted the conceptual solution architecture deliverable document and other related design artifacts and lead presentations to large client audiences of 40+ members to present and field questions regarding the deliverable.  This effort contributed to obtaining $10 million dollars in funding for the client project and provided a recommended strategic roadmap for project implementation.

Prior to joining DiamondCluster, Alex worked as a consultant with the Solutions Engineering Core Technology and Architecture service line within the insurance and banking market unit at Accenture. His duties there included infrastructure architecture and project management roles which encompassed configuration management, application server administration, software/hardware product selection and evaluation, infrastructure design and operations management. He has had significant exposure to large scale enterprise projects involving administration of multiple environments touching a variety of services (MQ, SAS, various databases, maineframe and rules engine).

Project Experience:

Liberty Mutual Insurance Company

Alex worked on a project established to examine the opportunities to drive out underwriting and processing costs for commercial lines. This project represented a broad-based initiative whose objective is to develop a fully automated underwriting and policy issuance environment. This environment introduced new processing capabilities that will fundamentally change the way commercial lines are processed. The objective is to enable a fully automated underwriting and policy issuance environment capable of supporting "unattended" processing for commercial lines.

Alex’s Responsibilities involved the following:

  • Configuration Management and Environment Manager for a large scale multi-release and multi-site development effort
  • Responsible for setting software configuration management standards for a large scale development project involving the following products: Rational Suite, SeeBeyond eGate/eInsight, AION rules engine, Websphere Application Server and Websphere Application Developer
  • Managed and coordinated development environment availability, testing, build and deployments across four separate development and testing locations across the continental US
  • Project infrastructure architecture design process

Hartford P&C Insurance Company

Alex participated on a project focused on providing model office capabilities to the Product Management organization's desktops.  These capabilities include the ability to analyze performance of the current book of business, create "what-if" underwriting scenarios by modifying risk assessment & eligibility rules, create "what-if" rating scenarios by modifying rate table factors and assess impact of underwriting and/or rating "what-if" scenarios on book of business performance

In addition, Alex worked on a project that represented a key initiative aimed at enabling faster realization of premiums, lower operating costs, and reduces loss exposure.  The program included projects to re-engineer the auto policy administration systems, delivered a new class plan using Ratabase, re-engineered testing methodologies to enable faster deployment of product to market, implemented profile-based underwriting techniques, and developed a product management workstation for creating and managing business rules and also provided the ability to perform segmentation and financial analysis for their book of business.

Hartford Life Insurance Company 

Alex worked on post-M&A integration of the two companies.  The high level objective of the project is to convert approximately 200,000 contracts from the acquired system to 14 newly defined products within the proprietary Acquirer’s systems. 

ING Financial Services 

Alex was part of a team that was involved with the post-M&A separation of the parent company from the acquired company. The applications and the technical infrastructure supporting Worksite Operations needed to be migrated to a centralized Data Center. The project scope included: Application testing for all systems, external system interfaces and connectivity and coordination of data move with the infrastructure.

Chubb Specialty Insurance 

Alex worked on a post-merger integration of the back-end systems of the insurer. The project was engaged to identify ways to alleviate short-term operating pain caused by redundant systems and provide a future operating vision covering business acquisition, selection and pricing, and customer service.
