Key modules: Remote Sensing for Global Change; Land Use Policy; Environmental Pollution; Natural Resource Management; Population and Community Ecology and Soil, Water and Atmospheric Processes.

Dissertation: Land Contamination Project investigating the distribution and bioaccessibility of hexavalent chromium in an industrial area of Glasgow. Use of ICP-OES for analysis of samples extracted from soil and sediment. 

Field Courses: 
Ecological Measurement, Oban, Scotland. Ecological surveying across Scotland to observe: invertebrates, water profiles; forest carbon stocks and soil chemistry. 
Field Course in Tropical Marine and Terrestrial Geoscience, Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory and localities, Jamaica. Investigated the human impact associated with the bauxite mining industry and overfishing on the marine environment - hydrological sampling in remote locations. 

Key skills: R and Minitab statistical Software used for data handling; population modelling and generating statistical models.Natural Resource Management techniques including: stakeholder analysis, SWOT/STEEP charts and cost benefit analysis.

  • Provided unique catering services- private functions and student meals- at 7 outlets across the University Estate.
  • Responsible for: leading training sessions on practical and health & safety procedures; cash handling tasks and delegation of roles as duty manager.
  • Promoted from Catering Team Member to Catering Team Leader in August 2015. To begin the role, I successfully managed a team preparing and serving street food for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Fundraising Volunteer

Mercy Corps Europe
  • In office marketing at the headquarters involved targeted fundraising using Raiser’s Edge and publicizing events on social media platforms.
  • Raised awareness and motivated students at University as part of the Mercy Corps Student Charity Group. Hosted guest speakers working in disaster areas- incl. Rae McGrath, Director of Operations for North Syria and Turkey.
  • Establishment of “Music for Mercy Corps” events and collaborative efforts with the South Asian Students Association resulted in £2500 raised by university students in response to the urgent Nepal Earthquake Appeal.

Catering, Cleaning and Waste Volunteer

The Commonwealth Games, Glasgow.
  • Volunteered in the Main Dining Hall of the Athlete’s Village welcoming teams from 72 countries with diverse cultural and disability needs.
  • Performed daily quality control checklists to maintain health and safety; food availability and accessibility. From Vegemite to Kimchi every calorie and gram of protein was accounted for. 
  • Featured behind the scenes access to the opening ceremony. 

Skills

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification from RLSS. 

  • Acted under time pressures to ensure the rescue of casualties, individually and with a supportive group, reacting in real time to developing scenarios for the assessment.
  • Served as full CPR and first aid training.
Project Planning 

Land Contamination Dissertation, Glasgow.

  • Planned a site specific survey to identify chromium sources, contamination extent and bioavailability. The project employed organisational techniques of gantt charts; risk management; budget forecasting and milestones. 
Event Management 

Treasurer for the Edinburgh University International Development Society

  • Created successful “African Food Battle"  event which promoted regional African cuisines and a message of global citizenship.

Water Polo Player at Edinburgh University Swimming and Water Polo Club
