Puffin Trading

Own company performing consulting and sales for a software company located in Sydney operating in the broadcasting industry as well as outdoor media company. Knowledge of media and issues related to it has been a benefit in this role. I work in counter-trade and corporate trading operations for a number of media providers, international corporations, including software manufacturers, freight and packaging suppliers and corporate barter operators. Additionally I write travel and natural history articles as well as business to business articles.

I also work as a Natural history guide around Australia and South Pacific. see 


Managing Director

Active International (Australia) Pty Limited

Active is the world’s largest Corporate Barter or Corporate Trading company with head office in New York. Active’s world-wide turnover calendar 2001 was just over US$1,000,000,000.00 with the Pac-Rim area contributing over US$20,000,000.00 to that.

Appointed head of sales for two years when Active opened in the region with one other staff member then in July 1996 appointed Managing Director of Australasia. Responsibilities include 26 staff in Sydney, 2 in Melbourne, 1 in Auckland and managing Hong Kong office and our other s.e. Asian clients. Additionally I had a development role for Pacific Rim countries including Hong Kong and new opportunities throughout the region including Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. During this time I was responsible for implementing new and unique ways of restoring under-performing assets for many Fortune 500 type companies. I made the office and the region the fastest growing and most successful under Active’s umbrella at the time, having negotiated transactions worth many millions of dollars with both clients and media operators, amongst others.

Twenty years experience in media sales and management with television and radio stations: combined with peripheral experience in the marketing and advertising arena, followed by over fifteen years in the Corporate Trading industry - encompassing fields such as media, goods & services, travel – and working with “Fortune 500” companies restoring their under-performing assets to full value has given a broad business background plus extensive knowledge of the financial impositions most companies inevitably face at some point.

The position in Corporate Trading provided me with the opportunity to dramatically hone my considerable skills in lateral thinking. I was responsible for restoring millions of dollars for large corporations through the many and varied methods employed in the field of Corporate Trading. Starting the last company scratch in the Australasian Region, building an office of 28 people in three countries with over $40,000,000 of turnover in that time was very satisfying. Additionally, my sales and marketing disciplines were instrumental in setting and achieving goals for myself and all past employers. Challenging sales & marketing roles seem to be a specialty.

I have a well-rounded background in sales and marketing: primarily in television and radio to national and international clients; along with the skills developed in corporate trading i.e. media space; hotel rooms and conferences; logistics; airline capacity, both passenger and freight; freight, including air and sea freight; couriers; printing; packaging and many other important aspects of the Goods & Service area. Combine with six months experience on the board of, as well as CEO, of an Australia Stock Exchange (ASX) listed company; you have an experienced and motivated individual, ready and able to take on a challenging new position anywhere worldwide.

I have worked in the media with sales, marketing and company management roles for twenty odd years. Working in start-ups or rescuing companies in media, corporate trading fields, media sales, etc. but all with an attitude of the customer is always right. I started the Australasian offices for a large US Corporate Trading (corporate barter) company and grew them over 9 years to have >30 staff in four PacRim countries. I have an outstanding ability to view things differently. I also have a great interest in Natural History, enjoy writing, photography and travelling: sometimes all together! Born and educated in England I have lived in England, France, NZ, US and now reside in Sydney Australia.
