Staff Psychiatric Nurse

St. Paul's Hospital, Providence Health Care

Responsible for completing thorough holistic assessments and daily medication administration for up to 5 patients on a 20 bed, in-patient mental health unit. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, provides support and advocacy for patients, co-leads therapeutic groups, links patients to community services and housing, collaborates on care plans and ensures community discharge plans are in place. Provides guidance, mentorship and orientation to student nurses and new staff nurses.


Addiction Nurse

Addiction Services, Evergreen and Three Bridges Community Health Centres, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority

Provided screening and assessment, direct nursing care, education and counseling to clients presenting with substance use disorders and related problems at the Community Health Centre. Worked collaboratively with physicians and health care professionals, addiction agencies, clients and their families in the identification and treatment of substance abuse issues. Coordinated and integrated care and advocacy and provided input into treatment plans. Performed physician delegated duties related to the Opiate Replacement Therapy Program. Developed and co-facilitated a weekly methadone support group. Provided telephone support for home based withdrawal management and provided consultation and referral to Primary Care and Withdrawal Management Services.

Responsible for the recruitment, assessment, orientation, case management, program development, group facilitation as well as maintenance and input of statistical and/or research data for the Tobacco Dependence Clinic. Provided psycho-education, performed physician delegated duties related to the pharmacological management of tobacco dependence and followed up with former group attendees.
