Career Goals

Allison's career goals include using the knowledge and skills learned during her Graduate Certificate of Study in Eating Disorders and Obesity as well as her dietetic internship and Masters program in a professional setting. During her internship, Allison found a passion for working one on one with people and helping them reach their individual goals. Allison also hopes to put the management skills that she gained from her position as a Graduate Assistant in the dorm cafeteria to use, either in foodservice management or in management of other professionals.

Dietetic Internship Plan of Study

- Fall 2013 : Professional Practice - Completed at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore, IL.

- Provided 5 weeks of staff relief in this rotation for this acute care hospital. Monitored critically ill patients on enteral tube feedings and TPN for modification and product changes.

- Fall 2013 : Community Nutrition - Completed at Rockford Memorial Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Outpatient, Rockford Memorial Hospital Diabetes and Nutrition Services, Linden Oaks at Edward Hospital and Fox-Valley/Tri-Cities Dialysis Centers.

- Participated in the care of a variety of patients, from dialysis to diabetes to neonates to women and men with eating disorders.

- Summer 2013 : Medical Nutrition Therapy - Completed at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital and Kindred Hospital in Sycamore, IL.

- Provided staff relief to two RDs at this rural community hospital. Cared for patients with conditions including cancer, cardiovascular complaints, renal failure, trauma, bowel obstructions, organ failure, diabetes, wounds and orthopedics.

- Spring 2013 : Food Systems Management - Completed at Stevenson Dining Hall at Northern Illinois University.

- Planned and implemented a themed dinner, A Midnight in Paris, with another intern for Stevenson Dining Hall and participated in a variety of management activities including managing a shift, closing, opening and handling trouble customers and staff.

- Fall 2012 : Life Cycle Nutrition - Completed at VNA WIC and Tomcat Health Center at East Aurora High School, CATCH, Northern Illinois University Campus Recreation Center and Oak Crest.

Biography

Allison graduated in December of 2013 with a Masters degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb Illinois, where she also completed her dietetic internship. Allison completed the Graduate Certificate of Study in Eating Disorders and Obesity in December of 2012, a 12 credit hour certification program based on prevention and treatment of eating disorders and obesity. At Northern, Allison worked at an on campus dining facility as a Graduate Assistant, supervising civil service and student workers while taking on responsibilities including a nutrition education board inside the cafeteria, responding to customer comments via a comment board, monitoring preparation and production sheets and handling all staff and customer complains that arose. Allison also taught a food preparation lab, worked as a research assistant to a professor and taught a catering class while at Northern.

Allison also graduated from Bradley University in Peoria Illinois with a Bachelors of Science in Dietetics and Psychology with minors in Health and Biology in May of 2011. While at Bradley, Allison ran the on campus nutrition counseling clinic, BodyWorks, under the direction of a Registered Dietitian. She was responsible for training 24 nutrition counselors, all senior dietetic majors, and scheduling all counseling appointments.
