Work History

Work History

Between May 2009 and September 2009 went travelling.

The Pensions Trust – Leeds, UK Dec 2008 to May 2009

Pensions Assistant

  • Looked after the administration of a large DB pension scheme for the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations.

  • Dealt with a number of charitable and non profit organisations within Scotland in a ‘cradle to grave’ admin role.

  • On top of new joiners, leavers, annual increases and retirements I had to liaise with managers and payroll administrators at different Housing Associations as well as scheme trustees and members. This role was my first Pensions Administrator role proper and also where I gained a large part of my pensions knowledge.

Mercer via IPS Group – Leeds, UK Sept 2009 to May 2010

Temporary Contract - Pensions Administrator

  • I dealt with Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution Schemes subject to assistance from the Financial Assistance Scheme and the Pension Protection Fund.

  • Produced quotations for normal and early retirements, calculating tranches of benefits pre A-Day, transfers and death benefits.

  • Assisted in calculations for earmarking orders, divorce settlements and scheme wind-ups

Aegon – Edinburgh, UK April 2011 to July 2011

Temporary Contract- Pension Splits Project

  • Overseeing a 3 month project within the Pensions team.

  • Identified tranches of benefits for almost 1000 pension scheme members, applied discretionary increases at a minimum level and saved the scheme enough money in order to reduce its deficit.

  • Created a clear plan initially as well as submitting a full report upon the completion of the project

STM Malta April 2012 – August 2012

Retirement Scheme Administrator

  • My first front line exposure to the QROPS market, I went from relative novice to a point of contact for technical queries in no time at all.

  • I learned the administrative side of the business extremely quickly whilst also steadily building some good relationships with the intermediaries through my natural ability to deal with people.

  • Garnered a knowledge of local legislation to back up the knowledge I already had of the UK financial services industry, giving me a competitive advantage over a number of my peers

  • Got used to working to deadlines in a very high pressure environment

Momentum Pensions - Malta September 2012 – Present

Pensions Analyst

I head up a newly created department focussed primarily on monitoring, analysing and reporting on the Pension Scheme's exposure to investment risk. Following the Maltese Investment guidelines and internal policies, it is my job to ensure that the company is able to fulfil its obligations as trustees as specified by the financial regulator.

I report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and work alongside key members of the operations, compliance and administration teams, helping pull everything together.

In addition to overseeing risk I am involved in a number of other areas including

  • Managing a small team of junior staff where I am also responsible for coaching, staff development and appraisals

  • Initiating business relationships with intermediaries and life companies and helping to develop these relationships into sustainable revenue streams

  • Ongoing operational support to the Head of Sales and the Intermediary Partnership Director.
