Research Summary

I have completed my PhD (conferred on 30 August 2016) under the School of Medical Science & Menzies Health Institute Queensland, Griffith University, Australia. More on Orchid ID: (orcid.org/0000-0002-7621-7236).

Before my PhD, I was actively involved in research with crude extracts of natural plants for phytochemical screening & pharmacological investigation both in vitro and in vivo (especially mouse) where the area of study mainly is subject to antidiabetic, antioxidant, analgesic, antimicrobial, cytotoxic & anti-inflammatory properties and so on of those plants and published almost 17 articles in various international Journals.

Brief description of my PhD project:

In my PhD, I have worked with Aqueous (AE) & Ethanol extracts (EE) of Australian toad's skin having serotonin 2A & Dopamine (D2) receptor activity along with anti-inflammation and to find the potential of AE & EE in Chronic anxiety disorder especially Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Initially I have collected toad skins and assessed various extraction systems to generate aqueous & ethanolic extracts and characterized 42 constituents using mass spectroscopy (HPLC/MS-Q-TOF) (a). To assess therapeutic potential of aqueous and ethanol extracts in anxiety disorder, in vitro neuronal brain cell (rat) (CLU213) assay including western blot, co-immunoprecipitation, qPCR and Immunofluorescence was used (b). Additionally an in vitro human macrophage cell (U937 cells) assay using ELIZA, qPCR, western blot and Immunofluorescence was employed to assess effects of these extracts on inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin-6 (IL6) (c).

From my PhD project, publication of 3 first author research papers (a,b,c) in high impact factor Journals have already published (please see the publication lists below) . Moreover, several other co-author papers (at least 3) based on oral microbiota (characterisation by GC-MS and gene sequencing) and anti-cancer activities of Australian cane toad skins are in progress as well.
