The Coloured Diggers group are a community collective who organize an annual march on ANZAC Day that commemorates the long-unrecognized role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander soldiers played in defending their country.

Highlights include:

  • City of Sydney's erection of $500,000 artwork in Hyde Park that commemorates Indigenous service as advocated for by the the Coloured Diggers group since 2007;
  • Increased attendance at the march (30 people to 3,000 in 2015)
  • live broadcast of the 2015 march nationally in Australia by free to air television network NITV.

Highlights include:

  • effective stakeholder engagement and delivery of $500,000 public artwork piece; YININMADYEMI: Thou didst let fall - an artwork that commemorates Indigenous service curated by Hetti Perkins and designed by Tony Albert;
  • creation of an inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan - a strategic document that focuses on improving the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. A key component of the plans is the economic development of Indigenous Australians through employment (recruitment, retention and development) and procurement;
  • development of the digital and face to face engagement strategy for the next public artwork in the Eora Journey - the Monument for the Eora (working title).

Manager

With KPMG Australia's Corporate Citizenship Group, the Manager position focused on Indigenous engagement, the development of the Reconciliation Action Plan and assist in linking up our professionals with secondments in Aboriginal organisations in conjunction with Jawun Indigenous Corporate Partnerships.

Duties included project management of a number of different projects and stakeholders, the creation of a report which including drafting text, sourcing and capturing images, procuring artworks/artists, developing internal and external communications strategies for local, national and international audiences and events management.

Highlights included:

  • KPMG awarded the 2012 AIMSC Special Recognition for extraordinary contribution to Indigenous supplier diversity;
  • production of two dynamic Reconciliation Action Plans that were promoted by Michael Hastings, Baron Hastings of Scarisbrick, CBE KPMGs International’s Global Head of Corporate Citizenship as a best-practice document for engaging with minority communities;
  • increased KPMG’s honorary (pro bono) work allocation for Indigenous organisations to over 10%.
