Laboratory Animal Veterinarian Technician

Although hired as a Veterinary Technician, I perform tasks as an Attending Veterinarian (health monitoring, technical advice, setting up new techniques, etc.). We house different species such as sheep, minipig, dogs, cats, rodents, rabbits and zebrafish in both barrier (SPF) and conventional facilities.

As Head of the Quality Assurance Unit we have accomplish ISO 9001 and 14000 certification and in December 2014, we had our first GLP pre-audit by the Spanish Monitoring Authority (ENAC). We have also successfully undergone AAALAC-like audits as an external site for accredited research companies. 

Collaboration as coordinator and teacher in the course “Advance training on animal protection and experimentation” (IV – IX editions). This course is accredited under the Spanish law (R.D. 1201/2005) for category B and C training.

Attending Veterinarian

I am combining my work at the University of Cordoba with an external Attending Veterinarian post at Abbott. I am responsible for the well-being and clinical care of the animals at the animal facility and ensuring the compliance of the animal welfare program. I also advise Study directors when designing a protocol and reviewing them before the IACUC evaluation. I work with the laboratory technicians when setting up new procedures.

PhD: Doctoral thesis: “Pharmacokinetic study of marbofloxacin controlled release polymeric formulations in goats”. Dissertation, January 2014 – Sobresaliente cum laude (Equivalent to Summa cum laude).
