Does someone have to be a VisualCV.com member to view my VisualCV?
No, not at all. In addition to sharing your VisualCV with other VisualCV.com members (including professionals and companies), you can also share it with non-members.
How do I share my VisualCV with others?
The mechanism you'll use for sharing a VisualCV depends on its privacy setting. Tell me more about privacy settings
For example, if your VisualCV is set to Private, you'll specify the individual or company you want to share it with via email. If your public VisualCV is set to Internet, you can include your member URL on your business cards or in your social network profile or email signature so anyone with an Internet connection can see your VisualCV. Where can I track activity for VisualCVs I've shared or received?
You can track activity for VisualCVs you've shared (and received) in a number of places:
- On the Home page, the Shares Received section shows who has recently shared their VisualCVs with you. The Shares Sent section shows the individuals and companies with whom you have shared your VisualCV, as well as how many times they viewed it.
- On the Professionals page, the Sent and Received views show you the members you have shared VisualCVs with and the members who have shared their VisualCVs with you.
Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly about changing my VisualCV's privacy setting to Internet.
OK. First, the benefits: Changing the privacy setting of your public VisualCV to Internet lets anyone view it. That means people can find your VisualCV by using a search engine, and you can use your VisualCV’s URL on business cards, in your email signature, and on social networking and job board sites.
Now, the drawbacks: The Internet privacy setting allows anyone to view your VisualCV—including harvester bots—just like anything else on the Internet that's public. In addition to personal information such as your home address and phone number, you may want to keep other information (such as your salary history) private until you are in deep discussions with a recruiter or employer who asks for this information. The most secure way to control who sees this information is to maintain two versions of your VisualCV—one with basic information you don't mind having public and another, more detailed one that remains private until a specific opportunity comes along. Can I just send someone a link to my VisualCV?
Sure! Your member web address (URL) points to your public VisualCV. You can use your member URL on business cards, in your email signature, in social network profiles and job boards, and even on your own web site to point others to your public VisualCV. Tell me more about my member URL
TIP: Before you use your member URL, be sure to change your public VisualCV's privacy setting to Internet to avoid publishing a broken link. Tell me more about VisualCV privacy settings
To share a private VisualCV, you would use the Share tab on the Home page rather than your member URL.
I didn't realize you use my login name in my URL. Can I change it?
Yes, we thought you might regret registering as "snugglebunny45." No problem—we can change your login name (and, therefore, your VisualCV.com member URL) for you. Just email us at and tell us what you want your new login name to be.
What if I don't want anyone to see my VisualCV?
You control who can or cannot access your VisualCVs. There are two ways to prevent people from seeing your VisualCV:
- If your public VisualCV is set to Internet or Members, change its privacy setting to Private on the Home page. When you do this, nobody will be able to view your VisualCV until you explicitly share it with someone. Tell me how
- Make your VisualCV inactive by selecting the Offline check box on the Home page. This action prevents anyone from seeing your VisualCV until you put it back online and is useful when you are still making changes to your VisualCV. Tell me how
Can I share just a part of my VisualCV?
You can't share just a part of a VisualCV. You can, however, make another version of the VisualCV that contains only the parts you want to share. The easiest way to do this is to copy the VisualCV and delete from the copied one the pieces you don't need for that audience. Tell me how to copy my VisualCV
How do I let people know I've updated my VisualCV?
If you've updated a VisualCV that you've previously shared with others, you can easily let your viewers know there is a new version to view. Just click the Update button in the Shares Sent section of your Home page. Tell me more about how to alert others when I update my VisualCV
Why can't I use the Share links next to my VisualCV?
On the Home page's Share tab, we remove the share links next to a VisualCV when you take the VisualCV offline. If you've finished making changes to the VisualCV and you're ready to share it again, just clear the Offline check box on the Privacy tab to make these links active again.
How do I stop sharing a VisualCV I previously shared with someone?
To stop sharing a VisualCV you previously shared with others, "unshare" the VisualCV with selected individuals. These individuals will no longer be able to view your VisualCV using the link we emailed them previously. Tell me more about unsharing my VisualCV
Note that unless you set your public VisualCV to Private, VisualCV.com members will still be able to view your VisualCV on the Professionals page even if you have explicitly unshared it with them.
Can I reciprocate or forward a shared VisualCV?
Ever viewed a VisualCV that you wanted to share with a colleague? Or wanted to reciprocate a share from another member? The toolbar at the top of the VisualCV you are viewing lets you easily do these things, and more:
![]()
- Contact - Email the professional using the email address he or she has provided in the contact section of the VisualCV.
- Share - Reciprocate by sharing your VisualCV with the professional (login required).
- Forward - Forward the VisualCV to one of your contacts (login required).
- Print - Print a PDF version of the VisualCV.
- Save - Save a PDF version of the VisualCV.
Someone else shared their VisualCV with me, but I can't view it. Why?
There are several possible reasons why you might not be able to view a VisualCV that someone has shared with you:
- The person may have taken the VisualCV offline to make a last-minute change. Try contacting the person directly or wait a day or two and try again.
- Maybe the person's job search is over and she wants to take herself off the market.
- For whatever reason, the person may have decided to "unshare" the VisualCV with you. For example, maybe he updated his VisualCV with more sensitive information and decided to unshare it with people rather than create a new copy of it.
- Maybe the person decided to cancel his VisualCV.com membership.
Why are people having trouble viewing my VisualCV?
You might have taken your VisualCV offline. If you take a VisualCV offline, nobody will be able to view it until you put it back online.
On your VisualCV Home page, in the My VisualCVs section, click the Privacy tab and make sure the Offline check box next to the VisualCV you have shared is empty (cleared).
