How can I change the style of text on my VisualCV?
Our simple rich-text editor strives for WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editing of your text. It does not always achieve this lofty goal. The tips outlined below should help you style the text on your VisualCV.
- Cut-and-paste text from other documents
- Organize with bullets and lists
- Add some style to my text
- Align my text
- Add links to my text
- Can I embed images or HTML?
Are you pasting content from another document?
For best results:
- Use the Paste from Word button.
Alternatively, you can use the Paste as Plain Text button.
- After you've pasted the text, use the Remove formatting button to clean up any "hidden" control or formatting characters.
- Delete any extra spaces - Sometimes when pasting, an extra line break or two will be carried forward from your original document. It's a good idea to remove these from the VisualCV.
- Save and Preview the VisualCV often!
Pasted text is still not styled the way I want!
Two sure-fire fallbacks to get the text the way you want it are:
- Type the text into the text box and then format it using the formatting options on VisualCV.
- Copy from Word (or other document) and then paste into a plain-text application (such as Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on the Mac) reformat there as necessary and then copy from there into your VisualCV.
Organize with bullets and lists
You can include a bulleted list
or a numbered list
. Using Indent
and Outdent
you can make sub-lists.
Bullet bulletin: Bullets copied from Word or other external documents into VisualCV don't always work very well. You'll be better off removing those bullets and using VisualCV's bullets.
Add style to my text
- Make the text stand out using Bold, Italics, or Underline.

- Change the size of the text.

- Change the color of the text.
- Highlight the text.

- Use any combination of the above.
Align my text
You can align the text easily using the following buttons:
- Align left - aligns text to the left side of the window

- Align center - centers text in the window

- Align right - aligns text to the right side of the window

- Align full - spreads text to fit the full width of the window

Add links to my text
You can link text to a website or item in your portfolio by selecting the text and clicking
. You'll be able to link to a website or to one of your Portfolio items. Use
to remove a link from the text.
Can I show off my web development skills? Can I embed an image?
You cannot include HTML, CSS, Javascript, and the like in your VisualCV's text sections. You can, however, use a Portfolio section to demonstrate your web development proficiency.
