This is the most exciting time in journalism since, well, the advent of the printing press. Journalists are no longer the elite "gatekeepers" of news in a one-way conversation. Because there are thousands of citizen journalists and bloggers all posting dozens of times a week, it is even more crucial to tell compelling, accurate and compassionate stories.
I believe that solid reporting and storytelling will rise above a saturated media market. This doesn’t mean that every article must follow AP style in the inverted pyramid form. What it must include is a story you just can’t help but “Share” on Facebook, tweet on Twitter or discuss around the water cooler in the office. Journalism is now about starting productive, progressive conversations with those who agree, and vehemently disagree, with you.
With an inundation of information on the Internet from credible sources as well as tabloids, an adherence to the highest standard of quality journalism is necessary. And I’m so thrilled everyday to be a journalist in these changing times.
