KPJ Healthcare Berhad (KPJ) is the healthcare division of Johor Corporation (JCorp) and a leader in Malaysia's challenging healthcare service industry.

The establishment of its first hospital, Johor Specialist Hospital in May 1981 was led by the late YBhg Tan Sri Dato' Basir Ismail, JCorp's first CEO and Dato' Dr Lim Kee Jin with a team of doctors from Johor Bahru. The hospital immediately gained great public acceptance, buoyed by the demand for quality medical services in the area.

But it was not until 1987 that KPJ expanded its operations beyond Johor's borders. Tawakal Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, which was facing financial difficulties, was offered to and duly accepted by KPJ that year. Within 12 months, the struggling hospital was able to turnaround.

Since then, KPJ has grown from strength to strength, which principally provide medical and specialist healthcare services, making it one of Malaysia's largest healthcare enterprises.

KPJ's extensive network now includes 22 private specialist hospital in Malaysia and 2 in Indonesia. With an extensive team of more than 750 medical specialists - many of them the best in their field in the country and more than 8000 staff members, KPJ strive to become the preferred healthcare provider in Malaysia.

In 1991, KPJ International University College of Nursing and Health Sciences was the first private nursing college to provide Diploma-level nursing qualifications which were recognised by the Nursing Board. Today, it is one of the leading teaching institutions for nursing and allied health services in the country, and was recently awarded the University College status by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) including to set up a new medical faculty.

In 1994 KPJ Healthcare made an impressive debut on Bursa Malaysia, being the first home-grown healthcare company to be listed on the Main board of stock exchange.
