Our goal:  Help you make the most out of NYC by making it as easy as possible to stretch an NYC buck.  We’re so serious about this “deals on demand™” concept that we’ve created a feature that lets you send coupons to your cell phone as a text message so that all you have to do is show the deal to the waiter (or waitress) / cashier to redeem it as a mobile coupon!  That’s right.  There’s no cutting or printing involved.  Just send the deals straight to your cell phone to redeem.  Best of all, it’s a free service from us (your carrier’s normal text message charges still apply).

Our “other” mission: We call ourselves 8coupons, but secretly, we want to be more than just coupons.  We want to empower local businesses in our neighborhoods so that they have the opportunity to be discovered.  We want to encourage you to check out that Cuban restaurant in the East Village, or the new sushi restaurant that just opened around the corner.  We want to make it easy for you to explore, discover, and take full advantage of living in the greatest city in the world, one neighborhood at a time.

If you haven’t already noticed, we’re a bit crazy about the number 8!  So crazy, we’ve designed our website around it and left the center space empty so that you can give us some ideas for what we should put there.  You can submit your ideas to us, and if we use it, we’ll give you an $88 gift certificate to any one of our local business partners. 

Additionally, in the spirit of ocho loco (crazy 8), we have an exclusive deals section of our site called “ocho loco deals™.”  What are ocho loco deals you ask? The 8coupons team goes around the city convincing local businesses to provide us with exclusive, outrageous “ocho loco deals™” with lots of 8’s in it.  They can range anywhere from $.08 burgers or cocktails to $.88 manicures to $8 dining deals.

But still… why 8 you ask?  Well, for several reasons.  The number 8 holds a lot of significance and symbolism.  In addition to being the luckiest and most coveted number in many countries throughout Asia, it’s also a symbol for infinity (on its side that is).  Also, have you ever heard of the 88 butterfly?  She (or he) is our mascot, and her (or his) name is La Mariposa Ochenta Ocho Loco
