What is a CV?

According to Merriam-Webster Online, a Curriculum Vitae (CV) is a short account of one's career and qualifications prepared typically by an applicant for a position.

So then what is a VisualCV?

VisualCV brings both the CV and the resume into the modern world by transforming the way in which resume data is presented, accessed and shared.  A VisualCV is an Internet-based resume that allows professionals to build and manage an online career portfolio that comes alive with informational keyword pop-ups, video, pictures, and networking.  And, secure sharing of VisualCVs enables interaction with others for the purposes of networking, discussing best practices, career progression and business development.

About Me

Formerly at Qorvis Communications, I joined the VisualCV team in November 2007 to help jumpstart the replacement of the traditional resume. We all wear many hats at VisualCV but I'm mostly working to get the word out about VisualCV.com. This means marketing, advertising, public relations and 24/7 promotion of our cool and innovative site. Have a new or fun idea about how to spread the good word on VisualCV? Let me know!

Before joining the VisualCV Team, I spent about three years at Qorvis working with clients from a broad range of industry sectors, including: Technology, Telecommunications, Financial Services, Real Estate Development, Insurance, Software and Consumer Electronics.

While at Qorvis, I worked on several high-profile public affairs campaigns aimed at increasing awareness and motivating both individuals and companies to weigh in on important technology and telecommunications issues. I worked for a coalition of companies fighting for network neutrality as well as a grassroots coalition of webcasters, artists and listeners hoping to reverse a hike in Internet radio royalty rates.  Another client had me working for digital technology rights for consumers on behalf of a coalition of consumer electronic companies and consumer advocacy organizations.  Working on many aspects of each campaign, I gained valuable experience in reaching target audiences and educating and motivating those audiences to take action about the issues.

Also in my time at Qorvis, I worked for B2B and B2C clients on many media and public relations projects.  To mention a few of them, I worked with clients on rebranding, website redevelopment and increased awareness in specific marketplaces.  I managed a speaker’s bureau obtaining speaker placements, positioning the client’s employees as experts in front of their target audiences.  I also pitched successful media tours and secured media coverage in key publications.  And, I built and maintained blogger relationships for certain clients.

About VisualCV, Inc.

VisualCV reinvents the resume using technologies that transform the way in which resume data is presented, accessed and shared. A VisualCV allows professionals to easily build and manage an online career portfolio that comes alive with informational keyword pop-ups, video, pictures, and professional networking. VisualCV.com enables secure sharing of VisualCVs for networking, career advancement and business development.  And, it’s free.  Based in Reston, Virginia, the company has received investments from one of the world’s leading executive search firms, Heidrick & Struggles (Nasdaq: HSII), and Valhalla Partners.  For more information, to register and start standing out, please visit www.VisualCV.com.

VisualCV allows professionals to create an online professional profile that replaces the traditional resume.  Available to both professionals and companies, VisualCV revolutionizes how these groups share and organize career information.  Your information is completely private and you control access to your VisualCVs.  Top companies around the country are currently signing up to start receiving VisualCVs in lieu of the traditional Word resume.  Companies are also creating VisualCVs to exhibit and share information regarding their culture, job opportunities, career potential and more.

VisualCVs, for professionals, can serve different purposes when sharing with friends, colleagues, clients, prospects, the Internet and recruiters or companies.  Based on your preferences, each version has its own security criteria and unique collection of portfolio items.  Professionals have the option to share a unique URL as a "live" Internet document that includes portfolio items such as work history and samples, salary information, awards, references, certifications, videos/photos and more.  VisualCVs also include informative pop-ups, hovering over companies, universities and keywords – eliminating research for you and your reader.  Sharing a VisualCV makes every meeting more effective and every relationship a better fit.

Registration for professionals and companies is easy and free.  Get started today!
