DEFINING TURNAROUND MANAGEMENT MILESTONES
GENERAL TELECOM, New York City
As Founder and CEO, transformed my communications equipment/services distribution company into the first and global-leading independent provider of tier one partition switching and network management services.
Responded to conditions and shifted strategy twice, propelling company from two-person operation, working out of my den, first to major player in the competitive Nortel switch business, and then to managed services, with staff of 50 in 3 U.S. cities and $750,000 monthly budget.
- Won Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year (Communications category) in 2000.
- Sold company in 2000 for $30 million to NYSE company.
- Led organization through acquisition and integration with 3 other firms.
PRODIGI, New York City
As Turnaround Consultant, conducted full-scale analysis and crafted comprehensive restructuring plan for this early-phase transaction processing company with 20 employees, burning $150,000 in equity capital per month.
Hired as President/COO to execute the financial restructuring and operational turnaround: re-energized corporate culture and investors, raising $1.4M additional debt and equity capital; drew more value out of working capital, and renegotiated trade contracts.
Three months into turnaround plan, encountered unforeseen technical challenges. Brought in outside engineers, determined new business model was unworkable and, with failure not an option, delivered the best outcome for the stakeholders:
- Took necessary budget and staff reductions of 50%.
- Sought strategic buyer for firm’s assets.
- Negotiated settlement with secured creditor moving to foreclosure.
- Negotiated and executed asset sale with NASD firm for 3-year earn-out potential of approximately $1.3MM.
