Bio

As a former HR executive, I bring an unusual perspective to career marketing. I spent 15 years hiring people at all levels, from recent graduates to the most senior executives, and I founded Blue Sky Resumes to empower job seekers and change the way people think about job search. Our clients may come to us for a resume, but they get so much more than that.

 

We help each and every client develop a clear and compelling value proposition, we articulate that value proposition in career marketing materials ranging from resumes to web portfolios, and we provide our clients with a step-by-step strategy for taking charge of their job search.

 

In addition to managing Blue Sky, I recently co-founded Career Hub, a group blog which brings together some of the best minds in the world of recruitment and career management. Our goal is to share our knowledge with as many people as possible while also raising the profile of our industry.

 

I am passionate about technology and continue to explore how job seekers can use new technologies to market themselves effectively. I am currently writing the second in a series of books about proactive job search, this one focused on building an effective online presence.

 

In my first book, The Complete Guide to Resume Writing, I teach my proprietary resume writing system, used by all Blue Sky writers.

 

I blog at Blue Sky Resumes Blog and I'm the co-creator of Freeresumehelp.net. When I'm not working, I enjoy movies, pastel painting and reading. I'm a politics junkie and my guilty pleasure is American Idol. (Sshh .. don't tell anyone!)

Initially hired as an HR administrator but promoted within one year. Served as key member of start-up team for new Canadian division of HMV Records. Helped establish HR function that supported rapid business growth, reporting directly to SVP of HR. Developed new hire orientation programs to instill company culture in all employees, and designed self-directed learning programs for managers.

 

  • Automated all HR systems, replacing manual files with custom-built database that cut administration time from one week to 2 days, thereby facilitating growth from 200 to 1,500 employees with no increase in HR staff.
