In the nineties Lars Windhorst became known as the New Economy Star who ran his first computer company at the age of seventeen. He imported electronic components from China, which he then assembled to personal computers in order to distribute the IT products with profit across Germany. In the wink of an eye he managed to establish a European-Asian corporation and went from being a teenaged boy to the "Wunderkind" of German economy.
In the mid-nineties Lars Windhorst hit the headlines with the expansion of his computer company´s business areas and the formation of additional enterprises such as Windhorst Company GmbH and Windhorst Electronic GmbH alongside Ming Rong Zhang, a Chinese businessman. He traveled with Ex-Chancellor Helmut Kohl and other high-ranking business representatives in Germany and overseas. A speedy growth with subsidiaries in China, Vietnam and Europe followed as a strong growth-oriented and internationally active group. At the age of 19 Lars Windhorst owned a company group which generated an annual turnover of over a hundred million Marks.
Over and above the distribution of IT-products, Lars Windhorst expanded his business and was further active in areas such as electronics, industry, trading, real estate and finance. For this purpose he founded Windhorst AG and additional companies in financial services, including the Windhorst Capital Holding GmbH. In the beginning of 2000 the Windhorst Group started to make substantial investments in the internet area and shifted its focus to the New Economy with the objective of listing the company on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Lars Windhorst created a multinational corporation with a yearly sales volume of 90 million Euro.
With the big crisis of the New Economy Windhorst Electronic GmbH descended into a maelstrom and become bankrupt. Hence the IT company had to cease its business activities whereas the Windhorst Group flourished further on in financial services.
Lars Windhorst 2nd Career
Since 2004 Lars Windhorst is considered the co-founder of the investment group Sapinda. The corporation of South African businessman Rob Hersov transacted investments of more than 2 billion Euros over the last 5 years. Lars Windhorst realized for the British fund exceptionally high rates of return and operated investments in excess of one billion Euros. It is certain to say that with his good sense of business, Lars Windhorst knows how to be convincing over and over again.
Due to the impact of the financial crisis in 2008, the company unterwent a restructuring phase in the 2nd half of 2008. The shareholders decided to declare insolvency for the German subsidiary. Since April 2009 the company resumed its investment activities with a new corporate structure. In May 2009 Lars Windhorst founded Sapinda Deutschland GmbH.
Sapinda Deutschland GmbH, which invests in public and private equity as well as debt, operates as a global investment and holding company and is a subsidiary of Sapinda Holding B.V.
