My Leadership Philosophy

My leadership philosophy is based on my academic, professional, and personal experience. It is same in project management as it is in life; trust and respect all team members, being ethical, openly communicate, be flexible and open-minded, appreciate others, be passionate, learn from my mistakes, take responsibility, and have fun.

My key emphasis is communication.  Keeping the line open for all to discuss.

Project Management Work Summary - Transfer Tracking

Tracking the transfers of IRA's, ERA, Retirement Plans, mutual funds, annuities, and publicly traded securities and the monies.  We were given this already ongoing project because the outside consultants that were originally contracted were exceeding the contractual time requirements and our internal clients did not want to continue using them.  The consultants had just "completed coding".

I treated this as a new project with the preliminary scope stating that our objective was to go through what was already coded and see what need to be changed to fit the specifications.

As a group we reviewed the applications and created a statement of work.  From there we did the usual by creating an activity list, network diagram, resource requirement (which always includes role and responsibilities), schedule and budget plan, communication plan and risk identification document.  Along with the developers and QC the detailed design and testing requirements were created and managed.  We had weekly status meetings and I weekly monitored and reported schedule and budget.  The outcome was we completed the project within time and budget.

Project Management Work Summary - Fee and Billing

A quarterly invoicing system for Internal and external clients - encompassing account information, multiple fee schedules, fee types and linked accounts.

After the preliminary scope, we started working with our internal clients to thrash out the statement of work and requirements analysis. The first problem is there were many exceptions given to brokers in terms of discounts so our business analysis and myself spent many hours interviewing end users to create a matrix and a high level design. At that point, I created a resource allocation to request all of the necessary resource (data base designer, developers, testers).

As a group, and with me facilitating, we got together and created a work breakdown structure. From there, an activity list, network diagram, schedule (including critical path), risks, and procurements documents were created.

The major problem with the Fee and Billing project was we did not have our own testing box.  So at every quarter we had to run our invoices against live data and wait for our clients and quality control to check the accuracy of the invoices; inevitably there would be more exceptions found.  In the mean time, while waiting for the testing to be done I would lose my development resources.  I ended up treating every quarter like a new project with an new work breakdown structure and detail design etc.  From my development background, I was able to structure the detail design by functions in such a way that the learning curve was minimized.

“It is with confidence and sincerity that I recommend to you Ileen Uhle Uliano as a former team member and employee of mine. While employed together at Fiserv I had the opportunity to work with her for ten years. When we began working together she was a fellow developer and later she joined my team as a lead developer. We worked on many of our organizations first Internet based applications and together we changed much of how our customers received and reviewed their investment statements from that point forward. While at Fiserv Ileen fulfilled many positions over her tenure but it was her skill as a developer and project leader that stood out. As a lead on my team she had a keen insight as to what state a project was in and where the project needed to go to progress. Her development talents combined with this creative insight made her contributions to the team very valuable. Ileen is very organized and highly creative and likes applying these talents to anything she is challenged with. She strives to establish project and team goals and works diligently to achieve them. Ileen's accountability and integrity are her strongest assets. She is an outstanding team player and demonstrates solid personal and professional ethics! She is confident and capable of anything she puts her mind to! I could continue with many more accounts of her accomplishments but will instead finish by saying I feel she would be a tremendous asset to any organization.”

I have had the pleasure of working with Ileen to establish the Caffeinated Career Club South meeting -- a supportive, positive job seeker group. Ileen stepped up to lead our workshop series, which included recruiting speakers and scheduling speakers as well as ensuring they have what they need. Through this venture, I've seen Ileen use many of the skills that I believe are keys to an effective ScrumMaster or PM. Ileen is organized, thoughtful in her approach to addressing issues or concerns, works well with a variety of individuals, supportive and dependable. The CCC South meeting would not be a reality without Ileen's help. Ileen is a leader, and will be a great addition to the next team that is wise enough to hire her!
