Since January 2007, Gregory Munks has served the community through his role as Sheriff of San Mateo County. Passionate about helping others, Gregory Munks possesses a law enforcement career that spans three decades. Beginning his career as a Reserve Police Officer for the Palo Alto Police Department, Gregory Munks spent two years in that role before rising in the ranks to Deputy Sheriff, Lieutenant, Human Resources Manager, Undersheriff, and finally, Sheriff in 2007. Gregory Munks’ considerable experience includes management over patrol, investigations, corrections, search and rescue, bomb detection and disposal, narcotic enforcement, and hostage negotiations, in addition to everyday records and personnel training management.
Over the course of his career, Gregory Munks has been instrumental in the development of many community improvement initiatives, including a Seat Belt Safety Program Grant, the Community Alliance to Rebuild Our Neighborhood (CARON), and numerous school resource and community police programs. In addition to serving as Sheriff of San Mateo County, Gregory Munks serves as Chairperson of the Northern California High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area and Chair of the San Mateo County Terrorism Working Group. Additionally, Gregory Munks holds memberships with the California State Sheriffs' Association, the California Peace Officers' Association, the Western States Sheriffs' Association, the California Narcotic Officers' Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Gregory Munks laid the foundation for his professional success with his impressive academic career. The possessor of two degrees, Gregory Munks earned his B.S. from the Menlo School of Business Administration and his M.B.A. from Golden Gate University.
In his limited spare time, Gregory Munks enjoys playing golf, skiing, traveling, horseback riding, and spending time with his family.
Gregory Munks currently resides in the California Bay Area.
