For CivicActions, I work with a project manager and clients to deliver Drupal and CiviCRM powered web sites. We rely on daily communication, open source tools and agile methodology.

As an independent consultant, I have developed Drupal web sites for nonprofit organizations and trained web development and design staff in Drupal development for companies.

Dartington Social Research Unit conducts scientific research about child development in the context of children’s services, with a view to informing needs-led, evidence-based interventions for children in need.

Projects:

• Develop online publication "Prevention Action," a new journalistic-style web site about developments in children's services, prevention science
• Develop encyclopedic glossary of terms for the Unit's methodological tool kit "Common Language"
• Develop online resources related to children's services in Ireland, U.K. and U.S.A.    

Southwest Youth Collaborative is a 14 year old youth development organization. As a membership organization, the Collaborative also organizes youth and families around civil and human rights issues related to education, criminal justice, immigration, and poverty. The organization employs over 30 part-time and full-time staff at three sites. My responsibilities at the Collaborative included maintaining 3 separate environments with a total of 30 workstations running Mac OS X, Windows 2000/XP, or Ubuntu Linux as well as 4 servers (FreeBSD and CentOS Linux).

Projects

• Migration from expensive, proprietary network operating system (Novell Netware 6.5) to free software (FreeBSD 5 and 6)
• Collaborative authoring and document repository (wiki) from Atlassian Confluence software
• Security (VPN) and web-based applications (webmail, wiki, groupware) that enabled workers to work easily from home or another site.
• Two Community Technology Centers with 20 and 12 of Macintosh, Windows, and Ubuntu Linux workstations
• Unified separate sources of personal and organizational contact information that were segregated by project or by staffperson into a central shared directory of people and organizations. This directory serves as an address book for desktop email clients as well as a data source for all databases for fundraising, membership and participation.

Supervise student employees and train them in various library processes, such as circulation of materials and technical services. Assist Masters- and Ph.D.-level social work students with research. Resolve disputes between patrons and the Library.

Record periodicals and serials. Create prediction patterns that reflect the frequency of incoming materials. Withdraw items, copies, titles. Fix errors. Train new recorders in the procedures of the section. Assist recorders with problems and exceptions.

Design advertisements and promotional information. Assist in the layout of the newspaper, scan photograph and prepare images. Manage fonts. Collect each issue on disk to be sent to the print shop.

Develop a system that produces a demographically detailed list of the unions statewide membership. Special demands of this task include understanding out-dated database softwares, maximizing data integrity in spite of incomplete data, and integrating the individual unions disparate data sets into a unified, cohesive application.

Latinos Progresando is a non-profit immigration case management firm. I have worked for them as a freelance contractor as well as a reliable volunteer in the same capacity. I do the same work for them, whether or not they have the funding to pay me.
